Our ideology
In Generacion we believe that the right of the children is very important, and we have appreciative way of handling the child and its problems.
We work with open doors, which implicates that the children can leave the house freely, after normal home standards of cause. Many other NGO’s in Lima does not give permission for the kids to leave the houses they live in. In Generacion we believe that it is important for the children to be a part of the society they live in, therefore the children goes to local schools and the bigger ones have job outside their home.
To live in a house is a big contrast to the life on the streets. Sometimes a child is in a way addicted to the street. This can first of all be because of the addiction to the drugs; witch can make a child wanting to leave there. Another aspect is that the life in the streets is a very free kind of life, no one is telling you what to do, nobody expecting anything of you. To suddenly be living in a home with rules, curfews, homework and chores can be very hard for the children, and sometimes a child needs a long time to get used to there new life. And of cause there is also the friends to have in mind in this perspective, who maybe are the only form of family the child has got. This also can be hard leaving behind. Some leaves the home, lives on the streets fore a while, comes back. Do it all over again. In Generacion we know that it can be a quit difficult process for a child to leave the street and we make a great deal out of helping the child trough this process. We have a believe and a trust in the child and do our best not to loose a child to the streets.
