The goal of the work is first of all to make contact with the children in order to give them a home. In these times this goal has been impossible as Generacion have only a little house left for the children to live in. But even when Generacion had our four houses not all children are willing to give up their in depended life on the streets. It can maybe sound odd, but the reason is that it can be a very difficult process for a child witch have lived on the streets for several years to start living in a home. Some never get of the streets. Some just need some time. [photopress:streetwork2_2.jpg,full,alignleft]We acknowledge this process and work white the children IN the streets, but not forgetting our socially believes either. For example when a child is with a person from Generacion it is permitted to sniff glue. The glue can damage the brain of a child and this can affect the learning skills and concentration skills of a child. Second of all, we have a forward-looking perspective in our work with the children, as we do projects with the children to improve their skills, their conditions and their way of thought about themselves.

We weigh education very high, as it can be a way out of the poverty. In Generacions education project we give the children in the streets a change to go to school, as all is been paid, the cost of the school, the materials. It can be difficult though to persuade the children that education is the way forward, but some take the opportunity.

Another work in the streets has to do with the health of the children. As many children suffer from tuberculoses, HIV, some get into accidents ore fights there is a lot to do, and we help them by taking escorting them to hospital to get medication ore hospital care. We have a person working in the health projects but there are so many problems in this field and we hope to do even more for the sick children in the future.

The problem with the girls in prostitution, have been in focus in Generacion fore very long. We have had a house specially for girls who before was in the trade of prostitution. Many girls find them selves in a situation where they can not get out of the prostitution as first as they are in. Generacion is now working to find a home for the girls helping them out of the streets and the prostitution

The last perspective on the work in the streets is the relation between the children and adults like us from Generacion. It is also very important to just be with the child, play football, celebrating Christmas ore a child’s birthday. To let the child no that somebody care for them, and wants to do an effort in changing the conditions that the street children live under today. To let the children know their rights and that they have an opportunity to changes their life.
